Disneyland Yippies

Those who were actually inside Disneyland on the night of Aug. 6, 1970 recall gaping at those 150 riot police that suddenly appeared along Main Street, U.S.A., their billy clubs at the ready.

When members of the Youth International Party tried to call Nunis' bluff by turning and heading back up Main Street, U.S.A. toward Sleeping Beauty Castle, that's when the riot police came marching out from backstage.

Last week's "Twiot" on Hollywood Boulevard reminded me of the last time SoCal youth sought to battle "The Man" in a theme-park-like setting -- when a vocal group of Yippies forced the early closure of Disneyland on Aug. 6, 1970.
