There's no question that we as a society need to do more to help homeless dogs and cats find loving families, and we are even seeing the issue of pet adoption enter the public policy arena.

it is heartbreaking to see wonderful pets staying in shelters day after day, year after year -- just because they are too large or too shy, have broken limbs, or are the "wrong" color.

While the news of Biden and his new cute-as-all-get-out purebred German Shepherd puppy is generating lots of positive reports, many of us in the animal community are concerned.

So the question is whether it's possible for any family -- presidential or otherwise -- to balance their desire for a shelter dog with a child's allergies. My answer: "Yes we can!"
