On December 20, both chambers of the U.S. Congress passed a little-noticed bill to expedite permitting for hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") on public lands in the Bakken Shale basin, located predominantly in North Dakota.
Is that the ultimate aim of the Obama administration? To continue to extract natural gas and risk producing methane, which will continue to contribute to global warming, even though our domestic need for it might plummet, so that it can exported?
Last Tuesday the Department of Interior (DOI) announced that all active duty service members and their families could use public lands for free. I know this doesn't fix other problems, but it's a significant gesture of thanks in a very public, meaningful way.
