Men and women from many different faith backgrounds met to discuss and learn where sexual orientation and gender identity fall into the Kingdom of God. This was the 2014 Gay Christian Network Conference. The warmth of the people inside evaporated the brutal Chicago weather outside.
For a brief moment I grasped this elusive sense of commonality as Catholics and Jews stood together in the former gates of hell listening to sublime music invoking solidarity, compassion and the universal yearning for heaven.
I believe that emerging church movements will only take root and have a meaningful impact on the world if helpful aspects of our historic church traditions and resources are leveraged in ways that inspire and support them.
