The voices of the people are what has always forced leaders to change course. This will be demonstrated when we call upon the president of Pakistan to create a cohesive plan to bring millions into school. The journey does not end there, but it is a meaningful step towards progress.

Malala may lie in hospital and she may have been silenced for now -- but millions who now carry her message can find in the run up to Malala Day on November 10th an opportunity to speak for her and ensure that action on girls' rights and children's education is no longer delayed.

Ending AIDS is as much a social challenge as a clinical one. One of the clearest lessons of the past three decades is that illiteracy and poverty fuel the spread of HIV and that education can slow it.
