Before I could preach the benefits of eggs and slam the study, I had to make sure that this new research didn't uncover something that the previous work did not. After all, one of my biggest complaints with the health industry is that we're afraid to admit when we're wrong.
For now, my gut reaction to the news about TMAO is that context matters. It's not really just about meat or eggs in the diet, but about the overall dietary pattern, the kinds of meat, the feed and treatment of the egg-laying hens, and our exposures to chemicals and antibiotics.
"Lucky" hens and their eggs live the way mother nature wants them to, on pastures! Their environments are free of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals, and they're never administered hormones or drugs.
