I have wondered for decades why the incident in which my great-uncle was murdered is simply called a "disaster" in the popular media, while more recent events are called "massacres," "mass killings," "killing sprees," "mass murders," "rampage killings" and such.

There is nothing as stark as seeing a video where a leader of a murderous group of thugs is able to announce the intention to use our own lack of common sense laws against us.

The Republican Party may have dodged a bullet when the FBI announced it had no plans, "at this time," to put the party on its Terrorist Watch List. But some members are none too happy about the slight.

With the recent terror plot foiled on the flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, let's see if our government officials react sensibly or foolishly. If their past actions are an example, I'm not hopeful.
