That's what I love about this moment. I see the names all linked for all time. There's my name right next to the name of the woman who became my wife in the middle of all this craziness. There's Kenny Loggins' name. Proof that he did indeed call one night with a "crazy idea."

In this band, I can use every aspect of what I do and love as an artist. I don't have to make myself smaller to fit in; I just have to have the courage to put it all out there.

When I look back, I can see that I've been searching for home since I started out in '71. It seems my life has been an endless quest for home, searching for that place where I know I belong.

When I was 12 years old, my grandmother used to say to me, "You keep singing, Little Girl, and you're gonna make it. I want to live long enough to see you on that 'Tonight Show' with Johnny Carson. OK?"

When I was in the second grade I had one burning desire: I wanted a super power. I was 6 and I really, REALLY needed a super power.

I've allowed myself this feeling only a few times in my life. It's a moment when suddenly, unexpectedly there is nothing to plan or do, and nothing to fear. All of life is distilled into here and now. I am no longer concerned about tomorrow. Everything I need is all around me.

You could kind of say that by being in this band, I'm married to two men. I have to trust them implicitly or this project simply will not work. The three of us fight and have our moments of not getting our way... we huff and we puff but in the end, we collectively decide what is best for our project and THAT'S what we end up doing.

In my life and career I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet famous people and you know what? It rarely goes well. I remember occasions where meeting my idols brought me more embarrassment than awe.

A few days ago it came to my attention that a fellow HuffPo writer named Ilene Angel had written a very flattering review of Blue Sky Riders. In the post, she asked me the questions she wished she'd have asked me backstage. I figured it might be fun and informative to print her questions here, with my answers, too.

I remember the day I quit waitressing. I loved that restaurant because it was run by management who cared about their employees. I told my boss, "I'm really excited about being a professional songwriter but I want you to know that I'm holding on to my waitress uniform, just in case things don't work out." And what he said, I'll never forget.

I had dropped out of college, gone to California, come home, gotten married and had two kids and was now making $278 a week. I was also writing songs in my basement every night after the kids were asleep. In my heart of hearts I knew that THAT was what i was put on this planet to do.

Even though you may have put in years of sweat to attain your goal, there always seems to be this bizarre sense of surprise, right at that moment when it all comes true. Even though every bone in your body knew it was just gonna happen, when it actually does, I guarantee shock and awe.

We have always known in our heads what being a brand-new band on the road would be like, but we are starting to actually experience it now and it is daunting! No radio station is apparently too small or newspaper interview too early in the morning to turn down.

Suddenly, I had a new musical style, a new band behind me and by the end of the year, a new marriage. I was ten feet tall and bullet-proof and, like most young, stupidly successful musicians, I just naturally assumed it would all last forever.

I was enjoying the beautiful scenery when about 12 minutes into it, I suddenly looked up and realized I was coming upon a huge mountain in front of me. As I got closer and closer, my heart started pounding and I started feeling very anxious. Why? Because I didn't have a view anymore.

I have had a lot of chances to know what it feels like to be Spock to a lot of amazing Kirks. I have toured as part of Carole King's Living Room Tour and stood to Ringo's left as part of the Roundheads. I am now in a band where I am one of three people at the front of the stage.

I finally understand what I wished for as a young man in Pasadena, as a rock star in the '80s and again as a grown man starting over again in 2012... It's the whole enchilada: nerves, tears and all. This is exactly what success feels like.

What made me want to get into this business anyway? Was it the piles of easy money? (Still looking.) Was it the respect of the artistic community? (Gave up looking for that in 2003.) Or was it something more twisted and dark?

How do we find a new way to collaborate that honors each of our creative urges, while keeping this production within our modest budget? After all, this ain't "Dark Side of the Moon," ya know.
