I am tired of catching flies with honey. I am tired of being expected to sit up straight, smile pretty, guard my words and "agree to disagree" with those who are actively fighting to deny me full citizenship in my own country, so that I don't offend their delicate sensibilities.

Why take one passage of the Bible so literally and not others? Here is a checklist of biblical proscriptions that opponents of gay marriage must also embrace if they want to shed the tag of "hypocrite."

For many liberals who believe in gay marriage, it seems obvious that any good person would support gay marriage. As a result, they may automatically think that anyone who disagrees must be a monster. However, Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) shatters this image.

It's not that you disagree with me, and it's not that you're a proud Christian. The reason I call you a bigot, and the reason that we cannot politely agree to disagree, is that you are trying to make me, my life and my family subject to your opinion and/or religious belief.

What is the result of all of broad, sweeping generalities about homosexuality in our public discourse? I believe that all people will be damaged by this kind of talk. The human race, far and wide, will not be able to think in complex ways.

The damage facing children of gay parents is not caused by their parents' sexuality but by outsiders who do not respect their families. Ironically, the opponents of same-sex marriage who profess to be thinking only of the children are harming children with their intolerance.

On Thursday morning I received a message from a college friend, who wrote, "I hope you know, that even though we have different perspectives on this issue, I still love you." I was excited to hear from her but saddened and angered by her response. How should I respond? I wondered.
