Giancarlo Stanton has signed the hugest contract in the history of baseball: 13 years and $325 million. The guy is only 25 years old and could easily make anyone his age really go through a "what the hell am I doing with my life" type of moment.
Marlins GM Dan Jennings and the team's hierarchy awarded slugger Giancarlo Stanton with the largest contract in MLB history, in both length (13 years) and total amount ($325 million). The deal was also the largest in North American sports history. But, it absolutely had to be done.
It is no surprise that a team that has won two of the last three World Series has a good farm system, but the discrepancy between how the system, and indeed the franchise, is perceived, and what it actually is remains significant.
