The gift of the nursing profession, and it is a gift, has brought me to faraway places But the less tangible places that I, as a nurse, have traveled, places where there are no postcards or passports, have been the real adventures of my nursing career.

It has been my experience that nurses, more than other groups, seek each other out. We travel as a pack whenever possible and see our togetherness as our strength, not our weakness

Fortunately, I get to see Bowie all the time. She is a healthy, beautiful little girl I can hold in my arms for hours. As I look at her, my thoughts are constantly with Dalitso, across the ocean. I hope she and her mother are healthy.

Although our founding mother of modern nursing would be impressed with the health technology of today, I am sure she would be sorely disappointed by the ongoing invisibility of nurses, which she fought so hard to overcome during her lifetime.
