What the GOP doesn't seem to have grasped is that just saying sensitive things (or refraining from saying stupidly insensitive things) isn't enough to win voters. It's the policies, not just the way you talk about them.
Women's issues and women voters were critical to this election. That's not coincidental. The War on Women has many dimensions -- social, cultural, psychological -- but in many ways women's issues are class issues.
The news media likes to pretend that they are an unbiased filter; that they simply report the stories as the happen. The truth, however, is that election coverage ends up having a lot more in common with Jersey Shore than with C-Span.
