Palin does reinforce McCain's maverick image. He threw out the established guidelines for picking a VP and went with the Fox News method of simply picking the hottest broad he could find.

Palin appears to have turned herself into a Barbie doll to advance her political career. Which, of course, will make feminists everywhere line up to vote for her. Especially Hilary supporters.

What does all of this mean? The friendly, apparently all-American demeanor? The rabid support of radical right-wing fundamentalists? The dogged, inexplicable hatred of trooper Wooten?

Palin has always been fast and loose with the truth, but her duplicity about the pipeline extends far beyond whether it is currently being built or not -- it is not -- but whether or not it ever will be built.

Had news agencies agreed to pay the exorbitant fees for access to her accounts, Palin's emails would have topped Alaskan crude oil as the state's No. 1 export.
