Activists here say there are at least 100,000 dual national Israeli-American voters. During a 4th of July picnic in Jerusalem, "the volunteers were constantly busy, not a moment to rest. People were lining up to register."

For many American Jews there is the apparent moral conundrum -- how do you support Tibet over China without supporting Palestine over Israel?

This Independence Day weekend, if you gas up at one of Venezuela's CITGO stations, ask yourself if you want to add to the $37 billion Americans will pay to Chavez this year for his over-priced gas.

Cease-fire or no cease-fire, neither side is turning its swords into plowshares. Nonetheless, the truce between Hamas and Israel is a very good thing.
Richard Silverstein | Posted 06.20.2008 | Politics
Some Israeli officials have suggested that the purpose of the ceasefire is to give legitimacy to a future military offensive, so that Israeli leaders could claim they had exhausted all other possibilities first.

On the surface, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and a prisoner swap deal between Hezbollah and Israel provide a glimmer of hope for a period of tranquility between the conflicting parties.

Kowtowing to an Israeli fear of Iran, McCain used the AIPAC forum to reinforce his three most dubious and dangerous policy claims and beat the drums of war.

Regardless of one's belief about Israel, violence is not the answer and both HAMAS and Israel need to be condemned for their appeal to violence to advance their cause.

That no one died in this rocket attack is no ordinary miracle. So many factors coalesced that even slightly different circumstances could have produced far deadlier results.

One of the strongest scenarios among neo-conservatives is based on the hypothesis that in the case of any military attack against Iran, the greatest beneficiary would be John McCain.

McCain can argue he was talking about Ahmadinejad, since Obama does want to meet with Iran...but how did he get to Iran without even mentioning the country by name?
Arianna Huffington | Posted 05.17.2008 | Politics
This week, John McCain and the truth parted ways again, this time citing irreconcilable differences - i.e. the fact that the truth regularly exposes the dissembling, say-anything-to-get-elected hack McCain has become. His attacks on Barack Obama's willingness to confront the leaders of Iran at the negotiating table, and his piling on agreement with President Bush's loathsome attempt to link Obama to Nazi appeasers, were shown to be nothing more than hypocritical political posturing by Jamie Rubin. The McCain camp's response was to attack the messenger (hmm, where have I seen that before?) and attempt to confuse the issue. So here's what we can expect from now until November from McCain: attack the truth tellers and pretend it's 2013.

The McCain question and answer I released yesterday was a full question and a full answer. Nothing is taken out of context. But in order to avoid further controversy and distraction, I have dug out what I believe to be all of the discussion on Hamas during our interview.

When Bush tells Israelis that he is ready for war on Israel's behalf, he is giving currency to an idea that harms Israel. And Jews.

We should not appease, engage, or give shoulder rubs to Islamist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. But wishing they would go away, while arming their enemies has gotten us nowhere.
