Whether or not Tully's work will strike a chord with contemporary readers remains to be seen. Certainly, readers of Jack Kerouac, Charles Bukowski, William Vollmann or Stephen Elliott will find something of interest in Tully's stories and prose.

I saw Harvey Pekar, just a few months ago. Harvey's presentation consisted of -- Harvey. Not a single frame of his work was displayed. Not even a cover of American Splendor.

King James would never be able to win and wear a crown in Cleveland. In contrast to the city, he shrank from failure. Perhaps the surprising thing isn't that he left, but that he stayed as long as he did.

Harvey's wife called me and told me that he was feeling kind of depressed, and if I wanted to take him on a road trip, now would be a good time. Over the last couple of years I've fantasized about making that trip with Harvey Pekar.
