Religion aside, I firmly believe that those who argue that homosexuality is a choice do so in order to justify senseless beatings of gays and lesbians, and continued discrimination and mistreatment against them. I also believe without a doubt that it is a choice to be a nasty human being.

There is talk of a "new anti-Semitism" sweeping the globe, but all I see is the same irrational hatred aimed at the same perplexed victims, who are once again left wondering what has energized such bile.

While it has never been easier to create a web of hatred online and off, it is still possible to harness the power of the Internet, and our network of communities offline, to create a counter insurgency.

Although a great deal has been written about the "critical thinking" assignment given to eighth graders in the Rialto Unified School District on whether or not the Holocaust ever occurred, I feel compelled to provide my perspective.

Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism, or TERF, is a loosely-organized collective with a message of hate and exclusion against transgender women in particular. They have attached themselves to radical feminism as a means to attempt to deny trans women basic access to health care, women's groups, restroom facilities, and more.

You don't have to wear a white sheet with a pointy hat and go around burning crosses to be racist. We all harbor prejudices of some kind, and many people are carelessly and casually racist while being perfectly pleasant otherwise. As I see it, racism and homophobia are two sides of the same coin.

As LGBT youth, adults and families know all too well, bullying isn't confined to just the playground, classroom, or cafeteria -- it can happen to anyone, anywhere. And as my wife and I prepare for the birth of our first child, we have to learn when negative actions become a teaching moment.

The September 11 Memorial Museum's Moral Responsibility
