Hillary Clinton Senate Seat

No one in New York politics knows more about the state than Liz Moynihan. And no one else can tell us what Pat Moynihan would think about who should be the next person to take his old seat in the Senate.

It appears Ms. Kennedy thinks that US Senate seats are something to lobbied for amongst political elites when one decides one wants them, and that the public should be happy to simply fall in line.

It's disturbing that the knee-jerk reaction of establishment politicians is to turn to someone whose primary qualifications are her famous name, her wealth, and her insider connections.

We New Yorkers luckily have the governor we now do, and a good slate of candidates to choose from. Not a single scandal-plagued, prostitute-patronizing, tax-evading, child-porn loving, wacko in the bunch...as far as we know.

The worst thing the governor could do is appoint an obscure member of Congress who promptly loses the seat to the opposing party--exactly what happened the last time a New York governor appointed a senator.

Caroline Kennedy does nothing publicly without thought and calculation. Her name is being bandied about as the new Junior Senator from New York State for only one reason.

Kennedy's leadership could have been helpful when we were getting the stuffing beaten out of us by a well-financed right wing for the past eight years. When things were tough, she was nowhere to be found.
