Unlike Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama may not have what it takes to defeat the Democrats in 2008.

IF true hillary should have won

It's only July. All polls are entirely meaningless until at least late September--and probably until late October. A significantly large percentage of the electorate always makes up its mind during the last week of a campaign. When _those_ #'s show up, it'll be something worth discussing.

That said, if Senator McCain had one of the worst possible weeks politically, and Senator Obama had one of the best, why _didn't_ he get anything resembling a huge bump?

We Are BLUE Collar POOR Republicans iN FLORIDA, and Sen. Obama did not have to come to us directly to get our votes!!

People most use some commonsense especially those in our state of West Virginia!!!

Obama is the only one I see Talking About Economic Issues Affecting POOR PEOPLE!! FLIPPER JOHN is ALL ABOUT THE SURGE and WAR!!!

Why so close?

Maybe because most of our country was stupid enough to elect Bush twice and so reality-impaired that 20-some percent of us STILL believe he's doing a good job despite all evidence to the contrary.

Add on another 20 percent admittedly racist enough to base a vote on that (the measure is actually 40-some percent, but it's probably safe to assume overlap in these two areas).

Given that, Obama's obviously doing an excellent job with the audience at hand. But, of course, we can't focus on THAT because then there'd be no controversy to keep the so-called "news" purveyors busy and in possession of an audience that even remotely cares what they think.

Actually as the last part of the democratic primary indicated, there is a large constituency that is not enthralled by Obama. They are not impressed by his eloquent speech.

The problem is that Obama has not made a genuine effort to appeal to these people...the so called Walmart democrat.

It was actually a bad mistake not to campaign in W.Virginia and Kentucky. I know Obama was saving resources, however the message sent was "Obama is not interested in the grassroots".

These are the individuals who are impressed by the townhall meetings, the church meetings, pressing flesh at the bar, at the diner and at the local lodge. They must be able to relate to their candidate. Basically Obama must do more one-on-one campaigning.

These people are best reached by talking the language of economics... but not in lofty terms. The terminology must be related to jobs, grocery bills, gas prices and heating costs this winter. They don't or won't understand "oil speculators" solar or wind energy.

It is all about what are you going to do now and how are you going to get it done right now. Crisp exact language. NO Change, no studying of policy, no philosophical message, no refinements, no nuances "just say what you mean and do it now"

Maybe, just maybe, putting her on the ticket will help with the election.
Maybe.

But, how 'bout afterwards?
Without doubt, the Clintons back in the White House spells disaster for an Obama presidency and for the country.

It's a Faustian Bargain not worth making

What didn't you like about the Clinton years? The peace, popularity, or unmatched prosperity? For the only Democrat to win two terms since Roosevelt (who btw had a ladyfriend on the side ;) Seriously the partisan years of the Republicans have been damaged by the Bush Administration and their own hypocrisy.

Of course if someone can name a disaster that befell us during the Clinton years caused by the Clinton feel free to respond.
