The thought of seeing a one-person show always makes my heart sink a little. I feel as if I'll have to work for my pleasure instead of sitting back and surrendering to some grand, mindless entertainment. Still I go, and never expect what I often find.
Since we have officially begun the late-April through mid-May greeting card industry wind-up to M-Day, I thought it only fair to say a word on behalf of those for whom Mother's Day is actually Motherless Day.
Holland Taylor has delivered a labor of love in this one-woman show about Ann Richards, the governor of Texas. It's a credit to Taylor that we feel like we've spent some time with Richards and would like to know more. It's a shame that this pleasant diversion doesn't work better as theater.
