Cindy Zelman | Posted 08.05.2013 | Gay Voices
Cindy Zelman

If it were a choice, it shouldn't matter. It would not be a sin unless you choose to believe in such things, and it would not make the relationships any less valid unless you choose to view them as less valid.

Seeing those who seek marriage as entitled to it not only as a general matter of civil rights, or as a marker of full citizenship, but rather as a form of protection for children, may bring us to marriage equality, even if we get there by taking very small baby steps.

David Michael McFarlane

In my mother's mind, I am straight but deluded by the "homosexual agenda," a nefarious term she continues to use, or tweets about, at least, and compares to the Taliban. This is problematic for a number of reasons. The main one being that her son is gay.

There seems to be a stigma that equates disability with 'non-functioning' or asexual. But it's just not true. The way in which we live may be different, but we are just as alive. So how do we go about making this topic less taboo? Open dialogue.

To all those out there who sometimes act like superior human beings I ask, "Ain't you tired?" I'm tired. I'm tired of conservative, straight Christians like Mr. Broussard saying that they're OK with gay people but think we should constantly fight against our same-sex attraction.

DENIAL: Homosexuality Is a "Choice," Right?

Jonathan Rauch | Posted 07.03.2013 | Gay Voices
Jonathan Rauch

I am always bitterly amused when I hear people say that homosexuality is a choice. I could only imagine, as a prepubescent boy, the relief I would feel when nature finally flipped that hormone switch, when at last I would begin to slaver and tremble over pictures of boobs in dog-eared copies of Playboy, stashed lovingly under my bed. Truly, I looked forward to it.

I have a peculiar memory which must date to when I was 10 or 11 years old. I am sitting daydreaming one afternoon, and it occurs to me that I will never get married. Simultaneously with this realization comes the recognition that I have always understood that marriage was unlikely for me, and that today is merely the first time I have said so, to myself, "aloud."

Born This Way? (VIDEO)

John Corvino | Posted 06.18.2013 | Gay Voices

Why are some people so quick to latch on to bold claims about the biological origins of homosexuality? I think it's because they believe that we need to show that we're born gay in order to establish that our sexuality is a deep, important and relatively fixed part of who we are.

The same reasoning that leads Justice Scalia to conclude that the Framers' ignorance of cell phones and the Internet doesn't resolve questions about "the freedom of speech" should also lead him to the Framers' ignorance about the nature of sexual orientation. If one is going to be an "originalist," at least one should be consistent about it.

Religious conservatives' obsession with anal sex is particularly troubling when it's used to disguise negative visceral reactions as considered moral judgments -- in other words, when our opponents move from "that's yucky" to "that's wrong!" I confront that tendency in this video.
