Pro-gun leaders like NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre would have us believe that "the guys with the guns make the rules" in our democracy. But nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, our Founders ratified the Constitution to obviate the need for political violence.
The NRA's sudden concern about the illegal trafficking of guns to dangerous people couldn't be more hypocritical. It turns out the NRA knows quite a bit about "wacked-out-schemes" that allow "evil people" to hurt "innocent citizens" in foreign countries.
Republicans have two options: Denounce the ridiculous idea that there are "Second Amendment remedies" to questions of policy, or own up to their role as co-conspirators in the rising level of insurrectionist violence we see in our country.
How have we reached the point where violence is promoted as an acceptable response to democratically-enacted legislation? The truth is that political developments over the past three decades have made such violence tragically inevitable.
