Perhaps I'm biased, but Chicago is a special place for women. The women who hail from this city are more than historic; they are change agents.

From those of us at Heartland Alliance, we wish you a happy birthday, Jane Addams. Thank you for giving us the chance to carry out your legacy and, more importantly, to end poverty once and for all.

Only someone with a sick sense of humor would deride activists who toil in Chicago's worst neighborhoods, dedicating time and effort to providing poor and disenfranchised citizens with a voice in the political and social process.
