Edwards is caught having an affair and the overwhelming assumption is that his political career is over. How does that make any sense? Does he care less about poor people than he did yesterday?
Mark Nickolas, 08.31.2008
It is instructive to recall what many of these GOP leaders -- who are now praising Palin's complete lack of national and foreign policy experience -- said in 2004 about Edwards.
Elizabeth Austin, 09.02.2008
As a mother myself, I feel fully justified in looking at Sarah Palin differently today than I did yesterday. Her politically ambitious decision at a time of family crisis tells me a great deal about her judgment and her priorities.
Drew Westen, 08.10.2008
We all extol John McCain for enduring 5 years of extreme hardship in Vietnam. But aren't his first wife's circumstances much like Elizabeth Edwards'?
Bonnie Fuller, 08.09.2008
Here's why Elizabeth was willing to believe her husband could cheat and STILL run for president.
Lee Stranahan, 08.18.2008
As we head into the the Democratic convention, the scandal isn't over -- it's really just beginning. Don't blame the media, blame John Edwards.
Jane Smiley, 08.11.2008
Going out and getting stupidly laid and then coming home and reconciling with the wife is not the same as going out, getting stupidly laid, divorcing the crippled wife and marrying the pretty young thing.
Lee Stranahan, 08.10.2008
Public records searches reveal a history of criminal charges and convictions that paint a potentially different picture of Andrew Young than that of a typical campaign worker.
Scott Shrake, 10.07.2007
Dennis Kucinich has about 60 Facebook groups, and his main one has 3,413 members. My favorite is "Mrs. Kucinich, FLILF." FL stands for First Lady.
Lee Stranahan, 07.27.2008
It seems to me that this is going to be a tsunami-sized scandal for the Democratic Party and right now the coming typhoon of press coverage is close to breaking.
Ian Gurvitz, 02.18.2008
The Republican National Committee released this recent photo apparently showing the contender for the Democratic Presidential nod in a romantic embrace with an unidentified white male.
Jill Brooke, 08.13.2008
Elizabeth Edwards may not have believed in him as a perfect husband after learning about his affair with Rielle Hunter, but I'm willing to bet she believed in him as a candidate.
John Sauer, 08.27.2008
Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.
Lee Woodruff, 08.14.2008
When backed into a corner, a mother lion will fight to the death to spare her cubs. It's programmed into human nature.
Jane Smiley, 08.09.2008
When there seemed to be a bit of a smoking gun about McCain and a lobbyist earlier this year, The National Enquirer didn't touch it. The lobbyist was disappeared, the New York Times dropped the story, and shhh....no scandal. Why is that?
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, 08.11.2008
Men who cheat do so not because they don't love their wives but because they hate themselves: not because their wives are not caring, but because their perforated sense-of-self is immune to affection.

I think the GOP may have a problem they haven't recognized. With this Palin pick they may be worrying about the wrong gender.
The Palin Effect may take on a whole other meaning come November 4th.
You would think with all his money, James Dobson could at least go out and get a divinity degree.
If Obama picked Hillary Clinton then McCain would have taken Romney or Pawlenty . . . basically ending this election season last week.
It's a whole new ball game now.
Not so.
Clinton's base was predominantly female Democrats and Rush Limbaugh's plants.
Clinton would also have energised the Republican base. They were ready for her with already prepared ads.
Palin is another play they have now concocted and have to play by ear because she was not properly vetted.
It's a "whole new ball game" my ass.
It's only so in your vacuous mind--and what you're hoping for is that it, like a virus, becomes so in other soulless wretches as well.
Sorry. Won't happen.
But Hillary would have excited the Repub AGAINST her!
Vote for issues, not your emotion: UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE, WOMEN'S CHOICE, VETS BENEFITS, EQUAL PAY.
With Hillary on the ticket as Veep, there would be no Sarah Palin. Obama blew it.
Cindy,
I agree!
If the Democratic Party doesn't win the presidency in 2008, after all that has happened the last few years and during a time of financial upheaval, something is seriously wrong.
Obviously, we will need to find new people to lead the Democatic Party. The influencial leaders who built up Obama and constantly ridiculed Clinton should be shown the door.
I've noticed if someone doesn't believe Obama will part the waters, they're just told to get over it. If we lose the election this November, it will be a whole new game.
While I believe Obama is a questionable choice as president, I still prefer him over McCain.
With Hillary on the ticket he would have insured victory in November. His ego and his campaign staff's vindictiveness blew the election.
Nah - Hillary is the single most polarizing figure in the history of politics. Many of Obama's base would have felt betrayed had he selected her. And as afar as egos go,.......... well Hillary and Bill have two of the most inflated egos
