Churches are shrinking these days and I can't say I wonder why. I can't describe the heartache and confusion I suffered by being rejected by my church just on the brink of discovering who I was.
I am a theology graduate student who also happens to be a lesbian. Sometimes other members of my parish make me feel like a social pariah and a second-class member of the Church.
And it seems to me a safe bet that if she feels the way she does about homosexuality, so do others in her church. I think she might be surprised at how far she can push the gay envelope without tearing it.
There's Christianity, which is supposed to be founded on the unconditional love of God, breaking and tearing apart a heart. Shredding someone's sense of worth. Devastating her confidence.
The reason gays and lesbians should never argue over scripture is because, not only does scripture not condemn homosexuality, arguing over it produces nothing but strife, division and hatred.
