Lindsay Lohan Will Stay On As Artistic Adviser Says Ungaro President

Lindsay Lohan will stay on as artistic adviser at Emanuel Ungaro, President and Chief Executive Mounir Moufarrige told Reuters on Tuesday. Lohan and designer Estrella Arch's collection of heart-shaped pasties, sequins, short hemlines and tight pants debuted at Paris Fashion Week to mixed...well, mainly negative reviews. In fact, Ungaro himself called the line a 'disaster.'

But that doesn't seem to matter to Moufarrige who said, "Yes (she's staying on), she has a job to do," putting an end to the rumors surrounding Lohan's future.

Moufarrige did acknowledge the ruthless criticism in response to the show:

"I am sure we can do better in the collection to be honest but I think it was harsh...but it did sell well."

He remarked that in the future, Ungaro's collections must be tighter and more identity-driven.

Dina Lohan Talks About Lindsay's Cutting

In his ongoing quest for truth by exposing the shameful inner workings of his troubled family, Michael Lohan has leaked yet another phone recording to RadarOnline. In it we learn that at one point Dina was so blinded by concern about her daughter's cutting that she thought talking to her press-hungry, abusive ex-husband about it might help.

First Michael and Dina argue over whether Lindsay wants to see Michael, then they play the blame game about her self-mutilation problem.

"Her cutting herself and hurting herself? Yeah, it's bad Michael, it's bad," Dina says.

Michael asks how she would feel if something happened to Lindsay and Dina responds, "I know that something will happen and I'll feel that it's all your fault, that's how I will feel, it's not about me."

Michael too refuses to accept any responsibility for his daughter's hypothetical self-inflicted demise. "Well, I will feel like it's everyone else's fault," he says.

Obviously the tape is not new, much like the revelation within. Lindsay went through a wrist bandage phase a couple of years ago, and showed up at an 'Ugly Betty' screening last year looking like this:

For her part, Dina has blasted Michael for releasing the tapes.

"The tapes were from a long time ago, and for a father to stoop this low is unforgivable," she tells E! News. "My heart is breaking for my children that he could do this. He has no visitation anymore and is six months behind in child support. The authorities have been alerted!"

Ungaro, who sold his business and is no longer involved in the label that carries his name, called Lindsay's collection "a disaster" on Monday night.

In an industry where hot messes like Lindsay Lohan can catapult to the role of "creative advisor" for one of Europe's most vaunted fashion houses, it's easy to dismiss fashion as frivolous, shallow, and completely irrational. Who has time to obsess over skirt lengths and boot heights when planet-spanning issues like world hunger, climate change, and water shortages are at stake? But fashion isn't something that exists in dresses only, as the late great Coco Chanel once said. It has to do with ideas, the way we live, and how we relate to the world around us.

1. Fashion is an environmental issue

The garment sector is a thirsty beast, using more water than any other industry besides agriculture. It's also an incredibly toxic one. Take conventional cotton, for instance, which is grown in more than 70 countries and comprises almost 50 percent of textiles worldwide. Cotton growers release $2 billion of hazardous chemical pesticides into the air every year, according to the Environmental Justice Foundation, accounting for 16 percent of global insecticides—more than any other agricultural crop. To put it in more palpable terms, it takes about a third of a pound of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to grow enough cotton for a single T-shirt.

That's not the worst of it: When it comes to the battery of chemicals at its command, the traditional dyeing process is one of the most environmentally devastating aspects of the textile manufacturing process. A staggering 17 to 20 percent of industrial pollution comes from textile dyeing and treatment, according to the World Bank. Plus, 72 of the toxic chemicals that threaten our freshwater resources are the direct result of textile dyeing, 30 of which cannot be removed through purification processes.

2. Fashion is a humanitarian issue

Beneath the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry are the farmers and garment workers who pull everything together. Labor standards in the developing world, where most manufacturing is outsourced, are spotty at best. Deplorable working conditions, meager pay, verbal and physical abuse, and child exploitation are par for the course.

Pesticide poisoning is another occupational hazard. (A single drop of aldicarb, a common cotton pesticide, can kill an adult when absorbed through the skin.) The World Health Organization estimates that at least 3 million people are poisoned by pesticides every year, resulting in 220,000 deaths worldwide annually. In rural communities, where poverty prevents farm workers from taking the necessary precautions, miscarriages, premature births, and sickly children are commonplace.

3. Fashion is a product-design issue

Like any good industrial design, fashion can be accomplished in a better, smarter, and more socially and environmentally sustainable manner. Eco-fashion may not save the world, but thoughtful, well-considered design—beyond silly fads and mindless consumerism—can make it a helluva nicer place to live in.

Another Lohan family voicemail has surfaced. Wednesday Michael Lohan released a recording of Lindsay sobbing to him about her mother Dina's lack of concern. His daughter responded over Twitter that he was a loser for airing their dirty laundry, especially since the voicemail was years old and not presented as such.

Now RadarOnline has released another voicemail, this one from Dina to Michael. It's from September 2008 and Dina can be heard grumbling to her ex-husband about her failed attempt to put Lindsay in rehab.

"You don't even know what I'd go through trying to get her into, like, rehab and stuff. She'd like, punch me in the face, kick me out of the car...like you don't know the (expletive) I went through trying to get her an intervention by myself. It was very difficult. She's really sad and really hurt and really...despondent. I told her not to go to L.A. at 18...she did. I couldn't leave these other three to go get her and it was, like, a mess."

Michael points out that his decision to release the tapes serves him, not the rest of his troubled family.

"I admit, I'm being a bit selfish in releasing the tapes," he told RadarOnline. "But I'm tired of being lied about. I'm tired of Dina and others making me out to be someone I'm not, so now I'm going to prove to the world who the real liars are."

Lindsay Lohan's Sobbing Voicemail To Dad: 'No One Cares About Me'

Michael Lohan is using his daughter's plight to draw attention to himself again.

Tuesday he told the New York Post that Lindsay is "a beautiful girl but she looks 100 years old." He also said that Lindsay's mom, Dina, fears Lindsay will kill herself with drugs. Now Michael has released a tearful voicemail from his troubled daughter that doesn't really prove anything except his opportunism over his family's complete dysfunction.

"Mommy says that I'm worse than you were," Lindsay sobs to her dad. "And she's defending...She doesn't back me and she doesn't stand by me. Why? Why? No one cares about me. They don't, by the way. No one cares that much. It's never about that. It's about how they feel, not how I feel. It's not about me. It's never been about me, unless I fight for it."

No telling when the message was recorded. Last week Lohan slammed her dad over Twitter for his lunatic tendencies and physical and verbal abuse.

Sunday's New York Post reported that Lindsay and Dina were seeking a restraining order to stop Michael from kidnapping Lindsay and forcing her into rehab. They reportedly also served him with a cease-and-desist order to prevent him from going public with voicemails from Dina--voicemails he said illustrate Dina's concern that Lindsay's drug use has landed her "on death's doorstep."

RadarOnline reports that Michael released the tape of Lindsay's voicemail "in an attempt to prove his point and to disprove those around Lindsay who are saying she's fine."

Lindsay Lohan Slams Dad Michael, Eyes Restraining Order

Lindsay Lohan took to her Twitter to slam her dad as a 'lunatic' as the NY Post reports she and her mother are taking Michael to court for a restraining order and over overdue child support. Michael recently claimed his elder daughter was on death's doorstep and is hooked on drugs.

Meanwhile, Sunday's New York Post reports that Lindsay and mom Dina may seek a restraining order on Monday "following Michael's statement that he wanted to kidnap her and force her into rehab," and that he's way behind on child support for his younger two kids with Dina.

"He is also six months behind in his child support. On Monday, we will file a violation order, and if he doesn't pay, he'll go to jail.

"He's getting paid for these shows he's doing talking about Lindsay," Dina said. "He's flying all over the country and not paying for his other three children he's hurting every time he goes on television.

Lohan is now in Morocco, earning a paycheck to show up at a resort opening.

My third grade teacher, Mrs. Gray, called my mom at home one day to tell her that she was worried about me playing soccer all of the time with the boys at recess. "She's the only girl and I'm afraid it's too rough for her. She might get hurt," she said. Thankfully my mom just reported this call to me, but made no judgment or set any rules that forbade me from continuing my recess behavior. The next day, I was back out on the soccer field.

Last week I went to see Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, "Ellen Page) who has pretty much resigned her 17-year-old life to pleasing her mom through entering beauty pageants. She is suffering from boredom and self-esteem issues because she hasn't found anything that really inspires her in her small Texas town. One day she tries out (in secret) for the roller derby and makes the team. She learns how to skate fast, weave in and out of other derby girls, do some tricks, and occasionally knock down some of her opponents. Ultimately she finds her power through the physical activity (and friendships) of the derby.

I am not advising knocking other girls down as a self-esteem tool, but I am suggesting that it is crucial for girls to have an outlet to express their physical drive and aggression.

Anger and physical aggression in girls and women is typically deemed inappropriate. We are taught to deny, suppress and hide these feelings. When they do show up, we tend to feel shame or guilt and try even harder to rein them in. This doesn't always work out so well.

"Girls' aggression comes out in other forms when it is reined in physically... Girls turn it against themselves: through eating disorders, self-mutilation, hypercriticism about their talents and bodies, and depression." says Sharon Lamb, clinical psychologist and author of The Secret Lives of Girls. In other words, when not permitted to express their aggression outwardly, girls 'aggress' against themselves.

The taboo of physical aggression for girls and women can show up in another form called "relational aggression." You got it -- the Mean Girls stuff.

"This is not about guns. Rarely even about fists... The weapons are subtle and sophisticated -- whispers, lies, the upward rolling of an eyeball, the kind of backstabbing that does not require a knife," says Susan Wellman, national expert in the field of relational aggression and founder of The Ophelia Project.

There is one place where aggression in girls is generally supported: sports. The roller derby is a fine example. The problem is that many schools across the country, in order to save money, have either eliminated their physical education programs or drastically cut them. Not only is this a physical health issue for girls (and boys), but a psychological one.

"When we deny women aggressive possibilities, we potentially diminish their being," says University of California anthropologist Victoria Burbank.

"Being a full human being means having the capacity for both compassion and anger and frustration. Along with the former comes the ability to care; with the latter the ability to act aggressively and be angry," says Sharon Lamb.

What if girls could own their aggression and even felt entitled to it? What would that look like beyond the playing field? What would that feel like?

I don't think I'll be joining up with the roller derby anytime soon, but I am sure glad I played some soccer in my school days.

Verizon has taken a shot at Apple with a clever commercial titled "iDon't" that points out everything its new Android 2.0-powered phone, The Motorola Droid, does that the iPhone does not.

The Droid Web site, on the other hand, looks like it was constructed by the Arnold Schwarzenneger character from Terminator 1 (not the lovable Teutonic hero of Terminators 2 & 3). And then there's the rather ambitious claim they appear to be making:

You betcha. And if it vibrated at precisely 200 kilohertz, we'd be singing "Jizz in My Pants."

However, we'll believe that claim the day our cell phones a) fix our traffic tickets, b) get us laid, or c) explain to our significant other(s) how we managed to get laid when they weren't in the room.

Also, the name: Droid is just a little too close to the 'Noids, that execrable marketing campaign Dominoes Pizza foisted on us in the late '80s. We've been Avoiding the Noids -- and Dominoes -- ever since.

Still, anyone willing to make fun of Apple, thus taking some of the heat off us, is OK in our book. In fact, we liked the idea so much we made our own little list of things we at eSarcasm don't or won't do.

Well that was embarrassing. After some of the worst reviews we've ever read (and we mean ever), it's not much of a stretch to imagine that we've already seen the end of the Lindsay Lohan experiment at Emanuel Ungaro. More than just being plain old bad, critics noted that the LiLo/Estrella Archs team didn't respect the Ungaro heritage—a history that began with the thread and needle of Italian émigré Ungaro who combined the kind of brash experimentation, sexuality, and handicraft of his homeland with the sensual, street-ready philosophy of Paris. Half-constructed she-blazers and glittery nipple appliqués just ain't cuttin' it, be they the brainchild of the upcoming Archs or a semi-conscious actress from Merrick. But this all begs the question--If not LiLo, then who should have their hands on the hot reigns of The House of Ungaro? Here's our top five list of contenders.

Chris Benz—You want flirty color and relaxed cuts? Benz has got that in spades. He's becoming more renowned with every season, and the backing of a internationally recognized (though oft-troubled) house could give him the muscle to fulfill the more fantastical ambitions lurking behind his designs. If he amps up the sex and holds on to his intuitive grasp of femininity, this just might work.

Zac Posen—Ok, sure, the man is a name in of himself—but when was the last time he really impressed us? Posen's been on the down side of an invisible streak for the last couple of seasons, and perhaps a change in setting could do him well. A switch to an overseas house could allow him to experiment with someone else's heritage and—perhaps most importantly, would send flocks of cool girls running back to Ungaro.
Yigal Azrouël—The ladies love Yigal… and they dig his clothes, too. While not the most experimental clothes-maker on the block, the Israeli designer is so completely keyed in to what women want without trussing them up in bizarre confections, that he may be ideal for Ungaro. He's a master with leather, silks, and other materials that are core to the Ungaro tradition, and it doesn't hurt anyone's bottom line that he's a regular in the gossip pages.

Christopher Kane—The success of the loud, lush Brit's collabs with Topshop and his own label have showed that while he has an Englishman's understanding of material, cut, and embellishment, he's got an Italian soul. We've all been a bit terrified of his famous crocodile T-shirts and, perhaps more importantly, a bit turned on. A fave of front-row celebs, he would be able to pull on current fashion idols like Rihanna and others to bolster the House's spiraling cred.

Chloë Sevigny—If owner Asim Abdullah is dead set on going with a celeb, he could do worse than New York's umlautted favorite fashion daughter. With a Parisian sense of style and the ability to go oversized-blazer casual to slinky LBD with the bat of an eye, Sevigny is just a few steps away from being the ideal Ungaro girl to begin with, and her collabs with Opening Ceremony have resulted in some sharp, sexy footwear. Sure, she says she'll only ever work with O.C., but we'll believe it when we see it.
