Too often we save things in life for the wrong reasons. Besides material goods, we save our emotions because we don't want to be hurt, our appearance because we don't want to look old, or our flaws because we don't want to be anything less than perfect.
Once we experience the fragility of our lives, we realize how precious that life is. Knowing I might not see another summer, I can't tell you how much I am enjoying watching the colors on the trees and the squirrels and chipmunks playing on the ground.
I decided a few months ago that I wasn't having enough fun. So I set out to accept all invitations that came my way for parties, fundraisers, art openings and happy hours. It's amazing how many opportunities pass by your view in any given month if you aren't looking for them!
What's the point of living a full life if one only uses it to burden others? We may live in a world of classes and hierarchies, but life itself is equal, and because it's short, rare, and not absolute, it also makes it special.
