Mall Santas

A couple of weeks ago, Bob Mindte told me he figured the Santa business would likely drop about 10% this year. So far, though, the demand for Santas is about on par with last year's levels, he says.

Money manager Arnold Silver has been told by some retailers in California and elsewhere that they won't hire any Santas this year -- or else hire far fewer of them -- in an effort to cut costs.
