Matisyahu's new album, Akeda, is almost pure roots music, with a little dancehall sprinkled in the mix. It's the kind of album you put on when you need to get away, or shut the bedroom door and just kick-back, soaking in the music.
Phillip, the songs on Behind The Light -- not exactly a light album -- seem deeper or a little more introspective than those of your previous album, The World From The Side Of The Moon. What was the creative process like for this new one?
There is always something -- a little spark of divinity, a little oil to make a ray of light to shine in the darkness -- something we can take hold of and use to re-build our lives. All it takes is a little light, a little hope to get started.
The Possession, mustered up enough atmosphere, dramatic tension, and credible performances to merit it more attention than is usually given to films shoveled into the traditional Labor Day dumping bin.
Our country is pure, and raw and passionate, and all the same structured, and ordered and cultivated. So too, should all real individuals be. And only a man with a beard can combine the bohemian and the bourgeoisie in a manner that we can read upon his face.
