Why John McCain's "Surge" Success Story is a Lie
McCain's belief that the surge "won the war" contradicts the substance of the "status of force" agreement the Bush administration has been trying to ram down the Iraqi government's throat.

This is not controversial history. It is history that anyone trying out for president must understand when there are 150,000 U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. It is an essential element to the story of the past two years.
In his speech Thursday in Philadelphia, the Dalai Lama explained that to reach a point where nations would outwardly disarm, people must first inwardly disarm.
As Obama's plane touched down in Afghanistan, Maliki's comments had a far-reaching effect on the war and presidential politics, with the Maliki government withdrawing from Bush and making McCain appear foolish.
It isn't just the American people who want us to leave Iraq. Now it's the U.S.-backed Prime Minister of Iraq. That leaves Bush, McCain and the neo cons as the only people still committed to this war.
What would you do differently in Iraq? Say it up top and be specific. Get readers and morning commuters to spill their coffee, what I call the "shock and awe" lede. Ok, maybe a bad pun.
Any one of the embarrassing incidents and comments this week would dominate the news cycle if they came from the Obama campaign. Yet McCain barely gets a mention.
Why have the media been so reluctant to acknowledge Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki's all-but endorsement of Obama's Iraq plans?
As reported in these pages, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has endorsed Barack Obama's 16-month withdrawal timetable. The McCain campaign is effectively over.
Berating women who are still supporting for vice president a candidate who won half the Democratic presidential nominee votes is not the way to persuade them to support Obama.
The McCain team, after goading Obama on to go overseas must now be kicking themselves to high heaven when he is greeted by thousands of people who wish they could be voting for him.
If McCain, who brags about his foreign policy credentials, can't get the facts right about who shares a border with whom and who's helping who in different struggles, he is not qualified to lead this country.
Don't keep insisting to the Arabs that you're not a Muslim. They already know that, and they don't care.
McCain, the former press darling who once referred to the media as "my base," is so upset that press is following Obama, he's become whining and petulant about it.
Let's call these missions what they are: photo ops and ways of gathering impressions, opinions, and assumptions from various sources on the ground. Let's leave the fact-finding to Google.

Well done.
You forgot something.
37. His 2008 opposition to the G.I. Bill.
He then took credit for the GI Bill. Seriously, I can't believe that McCain taking full credit for something that obviously was someone else's work hasn't completely hit home with Independents. He didn't even credit Webb at all.
I'm a little confused: What's the difference between reasons #1 & #2?
Good point. I got a chuckle out of that one. It is bang-on!
#19 should be the eye opener for McCain,,,,,,In 17 of the largest states Obama and Clinton's combined primary votes were 23,413,113, whereas ALL GOP candidates got a total of 11,416,808. The writing is definitely on the wall.
:
McCain may have LOTS of problems but Obama is not pulling away from him in the polling. This means a close election UNLESS Obama is able to bring so many new voters into the process (%5-7%) that absolutely blows up the polling data.
Are you implying that racism is raising its ugly head again?
The reason Obama is not pulling away from him in the pollings has nothing to do with McCain. The truth is that some people are just not ready and never will be ready for a black president.
Not to mention forged interviews such as those on CBS.
Maybe we should wait for #100 to be an all time big time gaffe by McCain. At his present rate of gaffes, I am sure he will indicate that he will give a speech at the Common border of Czechoslovakia, Iraq & Pakistan. This speech will be covered and heavily edited by CBS 's Curic and ABC's Gibson . The speech will have to be heavily edited because Curic, Gibson and McCain will be on a long plane flight to nowhere attempting to find this "Common border". They will not give up and will find this Mythical border . They all will use this alleged discovered common border as an opportunity to crow about McCain's National Security credentials.
