Mccain Postpones Campaign

The McCain campaign thinks his strategy of "suspending" his campaign helps reinforce his "Country First" slogan, but it really just makes him look like an old man who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

It's not clear how a national presidential debate -- the ultimate bully pulpit in this political season -- would detract from any effort to build national consensus on solutions for the economic crisis.

"As of today, I am officially bailing out of the debate," Sen. McCain told reporters in Washington today. "And I invite Sen. Obama to join me in this bailout effort."
