Do you live in the Chicagoland area in Illinois? Odds are you have a much higher home value than the rest of the state. When taking a look at the 25 Illinois counties with the average highest home values, the majority of them are in the northeastern quadrant of the state.
Illinois' unemployment rate in February was 8.7 percent, which was the second highest in the nation ahead of only Rhode Island. But when looking at the 102 counties in Illinois, only 18 counties actually had an unemployment rate lower than the state's rate of 8.7 percent.
The progressive tax versus flat tax debate is raging on -- if Illinois moves towards a progressive tax system, where taxes vary based on income, counties with higher median incomes will probably have a lot to say.
