There is an uncontroverted link between animal abuse and domestic violence, elder abuse, and child abuse. Animal abusers have little respect for human life.

Vick has paid his debt to society. Yes, he practiced killing and torture and violated the code of conduct he was sworn to uphold. That doesn't make him a monster. That makes him Dick Cheney.

We were the first animal welfare organization given the opportunity to work with Mr. Vick but turned him down due to the unique knowledge we had of his indescribable and barbaric acts of animal cruelty.

you can be forgiven for the bad you did once you have shown a capacity to reorient your life and practice ongoing good, particularly in the area where you caused harm.

Michael Vick will need to realize that he triggered in his fans and certainly all animal lovers the 3 H's of Hurt, Hate and Hesitation to Trust. To reverse each of those he will need to respond with the 3 R's of Remorse, Restitution and Rehabilitation before those people will give him a second chance.

In what other profession besides pro sports would a person convicted of running a massive dogfighting ring be welcomed back to their old employer almost immediately upon release from prison?

On Chicago's South Side, Michael Vick spoke to at-risk youth and urged them not to get involved in dog-fighting, telling kids from personal experience not to go down this dead-end path.

My initial reaction to the Michael Vick signing is disgust. Sure he can run a "wildcat" formation, but does that justify inviting the protests and ill will that will follow the Eagles everywhere, including at home?

Bring Vick back. Just make him work for it. The animals he tortured and killed deserve that, at the very least.

This week, the House unanimously approved a resolution recognizing that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. You'd hope that would signal an end to the birther virus infecting the GOP -- but just a day later Roy Blunt, the former Minority Whip and current Senate candidate, called Obama's place of birth "a legitimate question." It's time for these folks to put up or shut up. Show me a Kenyan birth certificate, Lou Dobbs, or zip it. Also this week, the NFL reinstated dog-killing quarterback Michael Vick, leaving sports fans to ponder which team might sign him. Probably best to avoid those with an animal mascot. The Saints wouldn't be a good fit either. He should stick with a team like the Giants or Steelers or Vikings. Why go looking for trouble?

Vick's comeback will be tied to three variables: His athletic skill, his ability to keep his nose clean, and the passage of time, which tends to be surprisingly merciful.

For six years Michael Vick savagely electrocuted and beat dogs to death after they lost their brutal fights, demonstrating a startling lack of moral character and judgment.
