An "island getaway" doesn't necessarily translate into washing up on the shores of the Caribbean. Plenty of other islands in the U.S. boast the same laid-back, secluded feel that you can find in Barbados or Jamaica, but often come at a fraction of those sky-high all-inclusive rates.

Fewer people, untouched nature, you name it; underrated beach destinations are hidden gems that can be just what you're looking for.

Home to about 8 million folks -- and tons of our readers -- the Big Apple is a behemoth destination to explore itself. But should you be longing to escape the crowded streets, know you're in similar company: New York's residents seemingly flock out town every Friday.

Some resorts, such as Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys, let boaters sleep on board and still access all of the pools, restaurants, and activities on-site.

No one loves a classic summer spot more than we do, but it doesn't hurt to mix things up.
