Without that principle of "caring for each other" and without shaping the program to embody that principle, the Democrats decided to put "winning something concrete" over the idea that changing consciousness should be central.

I have criticized the Democrats for failing to properly use the power of their majority in Congress and the mandate from an overwhelming victory last November, so it's only right I give them their props for finally taking charge.

If the Democrats in Congress don't find a way to become co-advocates with the president on these important issues, their future political problems will be the least of it.

We are either going to get no health care reform or watered-down health care legislation that acts as a bandage, helping some people but ignoring the larger problem creating the pain.
