Stomping around the grounds of SXSW, I canvassed events from FADER Fort to The Illmore that featured artsits ranging from Sam Smith to Future. As I hopped around from one event to the next, two major fashion trends stood out: neon sneakers and vintage denim pieces.
The original and legendary blue and red U.S. Route 66 signs have now faded to pink and dust, but let's not be blue about it, for the lavender Laundromats and rusting green tractors can still be spotted along the way.
Furr's grandmother introduced him to oil paints when he was 12 years old. He would set up a still life with fruit and paint it. He was obsessed -- he loved and still loves oil paint and the distinct smell of pure turpentine. "I was lucky. I found my dharma at age 12 years," he says.
If you're 15, you can wear neon. Barrettes, t-shirts, neon glow sneakers and such. If you're 17 you can decorate with neon in your bedroom. As for everyone else: sorry, you're just giving the rest of us a headache.
