Why should a police officer, a teacher, or a firefighter have to pay nearly the same income tax rate as a billionaire like Mayor Bloomberg? A tax that is basically flat makes no sense in New York City.
My rebuttal to all the arguments against promoting less sugary drinks is that it's time for a bigger helping of health justice. We need to create an environment where living healthy is the default choice.

For Cuomo, it's a master stroke: he solves his budget problem, reduces middle-class taxes, reconnects with the restive Democratic party base, and forges another bipartisan coalition, in the face of national gridlock and acrimony.
