This stadium thing looks like a really bad idea. But I did not write of this in public, because the blowback to criticizing Obama is so distracting and also because, well, they would probably wait for a man to say it.
William Bradley, 08.20.2008
The Dark Knight ends up in much the same place we finds ourselves today. Bereft of a clearcut hero. Having narrowly survived a assault against our essential selves. And wondering what comes next.
Phil Trounstine, 08.20.2008
As the reporter who first revealed Biden's filching of Robert F. Kennedy's words, I hereby declare that the statute of limitations on those transgressions has expired.
Sherman Yellen, 08.20.2008
In Rick Warren's Evangelical quiz show, McCain succeeded in making the abandonment of his first wife to appear as an example of his human frailty rather than his disloyalty and opportunism.

The good news is that Russia is no longer governed by an expansionist ideology, and in fact, it is not a strong country, but still a weak one -- the country's economy is a one trick pony.
Jennifer Nix, 08.20.2008
Obama Nation is a pathetic excuse for a book and is just one more example of how the right effectively moves their lies into the national discourse while the left fails to do so with progressive ideas.
Jay Rosen, 08.20.2008
Mother Jones is currently running a feature offering us the views of 24 writers, thinkers and historians on a question the editors find important: "Is Obama exaggerating when he compares his campaign to the great progressive moments in US history?"

Thanks to the new GI Bill, hundreds of thousands of troops sitting in Humvees and walking the streets of Iraq can afford to dream bigger dreams.

It's time for a president who will not hesitate to stand against any party faction, any special interest group, or any major donor whose demands and desires are contrary to that of the American people.
David Sirota, 08.20.2008
We must realize that while elections are important, constant pressure against both parties has always been the only force that makes real progress.
Sumbul Ali-Karamali, 08.20.2008
The thought of Obama attending both Islamic and Catholic schools strikes fear into some hearts. Instead, it should give us hope he would know how to communicate with both Muslim and Christian leaders.
Geoffrey R. Stone, 08.20.2008
Many Americans still need to hear what would be the most enduring values of Obama's America -- here is part of what I would like to hear him say in his acceptance speech.
Paul Abrams, 08.20.2008
Everyone knows Biden's expertise in foreign policy. It has overshadowed his equal expertise on the law, the Constitution, and the Judiciary -- it should not.
Greg Mitchell, 08.20.2008
Intrade, the well-known "prediction market" reports today that Biden "has overtaken Evan Bayh as the most likely running mate.
Wayne Besen, 08.20.2008
While Rick Warren is an improvement over Focus on the Family's James Dobson, he must teach evangelicals there is a better way than the selfishness of modern conservatism.
Craig Crawford, 08.20.2008
Unless an electrifying name we have not heard is in the wings, only Clinton would be a really big story. Which is, of course, not necessarily what Obama needs.

MAVERICK
The dictionary definition:
Originally used by ranchers to signify an unbranded cow that has lost its way. By convention, it can become the property of whoever finds it and brands it.
Dear Senator Obama,
BRAND that maverick while you have the chance and whatever you do, don't STOP branding him!!!
Some branding concepts. Feel free to use any of this!
1. John Sidney McCain III and his wife Cindy -- The Original Millionaire and his Wife. (Theme song from Gilligan's Island with footage of Thurston Howell III and his wife)
2.John Sidney McCain III: Efete AND Elete. (Show $500.00 loafers and emphasize the word LOAFERS and middle name SIDNEY.)
3. Make this comparison: The white haired dude is totally uncool. He's the school principle in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
4. He's so arrogant he doesn't think he needs to tell people what he believes. After all he's next in line to succeed King George II. Does he have some great ideas he's keeping to himself? Like invading Iran and starting the DRAFT perhaps?
5. Compare Bush's "compassionate conservative" label to McCain's "maverick" label. Same difference. Empty label in an empty suit.
6. Redefine maverick to mean "a cow that's lost its way". (Possibly inferring Mad Cow disease?) Then keep calling him a maverick like it's a dirty word. Everyone will be laughing at him for choosing that label.
Just BRAND him and NEVER, EVER APOLOGIZE!
One can only watch in disbelief and awe, as McCain pulls ahead of Obama, supporting a war eveyone hates, promising more war and new wars, an angry old man who knows nothing about the economy, and will do nothing about the environment. Don't get me started on DRILL DRILL DRILL, KILL KILL KILL. Obama should be blowing McCain away but he is not. He is behind and promises to lose this election in a big way. The time remaining will only have Obama slipping even further behind McCain. Shocking and Unbelievable, BUT TRUE. America, THE LAND OF DIMWITTED FRIGHTENED COWARDLY SELF RIGHTEOUS voters will insure that this forgetful angry old man who offers nothing but more of the same, defeats the smooth talking, mysterious, black and white man who offers some kind of change, but nothing concrete or substantial to back it up.
What they have failed to nail John McCain on is his assertion that the United States didn't lose Viet Nam, but that we weren't allowed to win, thanks to the fall out of support for the war here at home.
Which means that John McCain doesn't understand the lesson most of us learned from that bloody debacle, that being democracy has to come from within the hearts and minds of an indigenous people, not crammed down their throats, singed into their skin, beat into the skulls of their children by an imperialist nation.
Its the reason he doesn't want to leave Iran. Because he doesn't understand the truth our forefathers posited as self evidenciary, the foundation to our democracy, that all men are created equal is not evident to those in the Middle East.
Ask a Sunni if a Kurd or Shiite is his equal and you will be laughed from here to Mecca. Ask John McCain if he accepts this as truth and you will probably get that glazed over stare of his.
It's his Achilles heel, and Obama and company ignore it.
Correction.
Iraq not Iran,
It will be Iran if he wins the presidency.
HuffPost's Pick
I cannot possibly agree more. With every point you made.
The author of this article and rest of you whiny white liberals should stop complaining and start trashing McCain instead of attacking Obama for being a good man. I'm sick of white liberals nit picking everything about Obama this is why we as democrats lose. You have the Gov. of Ohio and every pundit Bill Maher saying he is disappointed and talking about Obama like he has lost the election and we have not even had the convention or the first debate yet. Obama still has a large electoral lead which is how our elections are decided not by national polls. White liberals need to start attacking your white brothers and sista's that keep voting for republicans cuz it sure the hell isn't Black people that are voting for republican and that are spinless!
I want Obama to stop propping up McCain. Fight for yourself and the party and the people who believe in you. Let John McCain defend his patriotism himself, Barack, you are not there to do it for him, Stop being so damned noble.
