Pepsi annexed graphic elements of the Obama campaign's logo. Mario Lavandeira lifted the name of an exhibitionist heiress, gave it a Latino twist, and emerged with staggering success. The appropriation of brands is epidemic, and the Internet is only making it worse.

The Obama campaign logo represents a break from the conventional notions of political logos and candidate branding. Many would argue that it is one of the most innovative political logos of all time.

Obama has a genuine brand logo. Even going back 20 years, I can't recall a single other instance where you could remove the candidate's face and name and still know who the logo represented.
