The Highest Oil Price Spike in History
What did it mean when oil prices Monday spiked by their largest amount in history, $16 in one day? It means something is seriously wrong with the oil price market.

Dear Governor Palin, During your debate with Senator Biden you said you welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with the American people, "uncenso...
Devising new and hilariously clever agitprop words like "Defeatocrats" is clearly more patriotic than actually addressing the principle source of global and domestic instability.
John McCain may not know what gas costs or when he last pumped any, or performed any other act not connected to politics or outpatient care, but he's had hundreds of town hall meetings.
This is easily the best energy plan ever put forward by a nominee of either party. By comparison, the plan of John "Nothing but Nukes" McCain plan is a joke.
With the cost of gas still near record highs and crude oil prices rising and falling like a ride at Six Flags, drilling for oil has been capturing imaginations and grabbing headlines.
Any sort of cash incentive to get manufacturers to build more efficient vehicles -- and to get people to buy more of them -- is an admirable thing. But let's not forget that if people just make smarter choices, this nation's energy usage will go down dramatically.
Why are the Democrats in Congress, and the Obama campaign, still fluttering with anxiety to join the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" campaign introduced and orchestrated by Newt Gingrich?
The disconnect between McCain's words and his actions, all in an effort to distort his record, is the central approach to his campaign. And it smells a lot like the last eight years of Bush.
In 1938 Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act regulating the eight hour day, 40 hour week. Most scholars of work and many Americans agree: the traditional work schedule is a relic.
Every time the price of oil goes up $3 or $5 a barrel, analysts point with alarm to Iraq, Iran, Venezuela or Nigeria.
McCain says "Drill here, drill now!" to reduce the price of gas, but every time the price of oil goes up, more jobs return from China, and first to the basic heavy industries like steel. Why does he hate the rust belt states? Or, for that matter, Mexico?
Though McCain's plan for offshore drilling will not ease the energy crisis, it is dandy patronage for the oil industry, who will be able to make nice profits from extracting and selling the 200,000 barrels per day.
All politics aside, I would like to share with you the information I have been able to gather with regard to the amount of oil we might be able to get from offshore drilling.
What is McCain's next commercial going to be? That Obama is responsible for global warming? The recent outbreak of salmonella? The inability of the Chicago Cubs to win a World Series?
Substantial increase in grain production outlook and decreased speculation have seen a sharp drop in prices for corn, wheat and soybeans, yet anti-ethanol critics continue to complain. What's going on?

Don't get carried away too soon. OPEC is not going to give way its oil. Production has already been cut, and will be cut more.
Of course, prices lag. The oil takes months to get here, and then has to be refined.
Problem is, how can we pay for oil at ANY price?
Somebody please explain...
One year ago today a barrel of oil was on the market for 77.31, gas sold for 2.75 a gallon.
Today a barrel of oil went for 79.84, and a gallon of gas bought today was 3.63 a gallon.
Am I missing something? Is this a better quality product they're getting out of the ground
now? A well worn phrase used at the company I once worked for is BOHICA.
(Bend over, here it comes again.) Yeah, well, BOHICA ya'll.
Wonder exactly how much the Arabs, etc., actually get for a barrel of oil? Yesterday I paid $3.58/gal. gasoline. Gas prices usually go down just before as election but the Repugs went to far this time. As much as we will suffer with the economy, this is a Republican thing. We can do better. Go Democratic up and down the ticket.
Obama/ Biden 08
Why is the local chevron then charging $3.79 for a gallon of unleaded. WTF???
i don't believe it - - dubya and his cadre figured out how to get the price of oil down; not drill, baby, drill. just tank the whole freakin' economy. and it's workin'. we're payin' the arabs less, and the cheney cartel isn't lowering prices in goose step, so they continue to make profits while everyone else jumps off a bridge from their thirsty suvs. gotta hand it to 'em...that's change we can depend on.
