I'm finding more and more teenagers don't have "hang out places" anymore, they've found their tribe of friends on social media and smart phones. Looking someone in the eye is a foreign concept for a new generation of emerging adults.
Modern parents are almost obsessed with filling up their children's time. There are after-school classes, team sports, camps, lessons. What's often missing from the schedule is valuable time spent alone.
Once they reach a certain age, our children spend the majority of their waking hours away from us, and in the end it is incumbent upon them to know when to steer clear, when to say no, and, most importantly, when to speak up -- and loudly.
