We can be afraid of pain, nervously anticipate it, and try to avoid it all costs, or we can choose something different. We can accept it. We can embrace it. We can observe it. We can do whatever we want with it; that is our power. Pain is not inherently good or bad -- pain simply is. We decide the rest.
I grew up thinking college was the most fun four years of your life. What I realized is that everyone has a different definition of fun. I had to accept that I'm not the girl who goes out every night. I'm the girl who would rather study film and intern during the week than go out. And once I did that, I was actually happy for the first time in my life.
The stereotypical FOMO sufferer is that one person that will never turn down an invite. They will be peer pressured into going out, despite swearing blind they were going to take a night off, simply for the fear of missing out. See, I'm more of a JOMO kind of gal -- I relish in the joy of missing out.
