At first, your eyes wander near and far in an attempt to take in the enormity of the creature. Then, a voice in your head screams, having realized that you're in the presence of the largest animal that's ever lived.
In a typical year, PHS/SPCA may see 20-25 pelicans, but not in a concentrated time frame. I have to say that standing in the room with these remarkable and very large birds feels a bit like sharing space with a flock of Pterodactyl.
These species are at risk not only in the short-term from direct oil exposure that can lead to hypothermia, burns and inability to forage, but also from chronic effects of contamination that can affect reproduction.
