Having lost the culture war, the religious right's latest tactic is to falsely cast themselves as martyrs who are defending the faith and the right to free speech against an increasingly totalitarian majority. Perhaps the biggest crybaby is the Family Research Council's Peter Sprigg.

We have truly entered a new era. Prior to the inauguration, the National Organization for Marriage and the Family Research Council condemned any strides forward by the gay community, but now they have waved a magic wand to make our struggles disappear! It is so nice of them!

In asking us not to call this hateful, Dana Milbank is asking us to accept people wanting us demonized, detained, deported, and dead as a normal part of American political and religious life. We're the ones being told that we must tolerate this as a simple difference of opinion.

Sprigg is not only an employee of FRC but a pastor, yet he feels no problem with bearing false witness in the name of his definition of God. Apparently, Sprigg (and the Family Research Council) must follow a different Bible that approves of lying about the LGBT community.

Prop 8 was built upon deliberate lies that Maggie Gallagher, Tony Perkins, Peter Sprigg, and the rest of those pushing it were too fearful to defend in court. None of these people had the guts to take an oath and attest to the veracity of the claims they made.
