Throughout the year I've posted daily doses of music commentary and record reviews over at Burning Wood. I try to be honest and shoot from the hip. So...
You could say that Huffington Post has been solidly behind Peter Wolf's latest solo album Midnight Souvenirs. And why not? It's easily one of the most entertaining, wildly raucous and just plain exciting albums of 2010.
As a showman, Peter Wolf is right up there with Mick Jagger and James Brown. He doesn't put out a batch of unrelated songs, he makes what used to be called "albums," and they take you on a carefully sequenced adventure.
While looking forward to the release of his seventh solo album, Wolf touched on everything from breakups and reunions to why his former band isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Wolf co-authored 12 of the 14 songs, but you'd swear none of them is new -- though original, the music has the authority of classic R&B, old-time country, Philly soul, Mississippi cotton-picker blues and more.
Fortunately, as the father of two sons, absolutely no one is asking me to see New Moon, but for those out there waiting in some bloody line, here's my moon-themed playlist.
