Perhaps it is time for the Third Vatican Council. Because Vatican III is going to be the only way sweeping change will ever take place within the Catholic Church.

It will really take a miracle, the suffusion of the College by the Holy Spirit, the Interbreathing Spirit of all life, to change the Church by election of a pope more in the tradition of Jesus and John XXIII.

In Iceland, for decades, the entire "Hymns of the Passion" by Hallgrimur Petursson has been broadcast annually by the State Broadcasting Service. We were shocked by the many blatantly anti-Semitic references that pervade Petursson's Hymns.

Although I am not a Catholic, I was among the many outside the Church who found Pope John to be an inspirational figure during his tragically short Vatican tenure in the early 1960's at the height of the Cold War.

I love reading other people's resolutions and their personal commandments, and I was very interested to read the daily decalogue of Pope John XXIII.
