Two important public health policy matters that require the attention of policy makers seem to be constantly in tension with one another: the under-treatment of chronic pain and the abuse of prescription medications.
Is this what the science and art of psychotherapy and psychiatry has been reduced to? Don't talk, don't question, don't get to know the patient. The Doctor's role is to be the last part of the conveyor belt leading from the pharmaceutical plant to the patient's mouth.
A psychiatrist prescribing medications that supposedly work, cause little or no harm, and are scientifically proven to meet at least these aforementioned three criteria, couldn't be further from simple.
