Ironically, many of the budgetary forces at universities work to drive up tuition costs and lower educational quality; and most of the reasons for this strange combination have to do with compensation.

With tuition rising, many are concerned with containing the cost of higher education. As important as this is, shouldn't we also focus on ways to maximize the benefits of a college education?

Taking the admonition for engagement seriously, we can devise collaborative methods for integrating universities' massive intellectual capital with the resources of the community.
