To suggest that Americans are better off without these new rights is ludicrous. Florida judge Roger Vinson's ruling is simply conservative judicial activism run amok.
A majority of American taxpayers will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014 if the new healthcare law isn't overturned or revised. I predict it will be.
Judge Vinson could not resist; he took the wild step of holding that the individual mandate was so intertwined with the rest of the law that it could not be "severed" from it, and so he invalidated the whole law.

In a last-minute effort to sway public opinion leading up to the Supreme Court appeal, the Obama Administration rebranded the healthcare bill the "Or You Will Die of Fatness" Bill.
While we should all heed our mother's advice to eat our vegetables, what matters for the courts should be the text and history of the U.S. Constitution.
Epithets like "judicial activism" assume that there are areas of governmental activity that the courts simply have no business meddling with -- this is wrong.
