Section 377 violates the Indian Constitution, which defends the rights to equality, non-discrimination, freedom of expression and liberty which includes dignity and privacy. These are all universal rights for all people, whether they are LGBT or not.
Over the past four years, the recognition of equal rights for sexual minorities in India has increased significantly, as thousands of LGBTQ individuals came out to their families, friends and coworkers without the fear of being harassed, blackmailed and persecuted.
