The filibuster was never a good idea; it was not anticipated by those who wrote the Constitution, and it has been abused over the last few years in ways that would have been unimaginable to most senators prior to 1975. It needs to go.
While on the Senate floor Senator Reid recently noted, "If this flood of outside money continues, the day after the election, 17 angry old white men will wake up and realize they just bought the country."
Next year the Republicans will have ironclad control of the House. It would be outrageous if Democrats allowed a minority of Republican Senators to use the current rules to limit what the Democratic majority can do in the Senate.
